We only send you compatible matches; however, there are several things you can do to increase the size of your potential matching pool. Most importantly, have the widest possible matching preferences in your account. To access your Match Settings page and edit your preferences:
1. Log into your eHarmony account.
2. Click the "Settings" link at the top of the page.
3. Click the "Match Settings" link.
4. Click on the tile of the setting (such as Distance & Geography or Age) you wish to view.
Please make sure to click the "Save" button after changing any selection.
Think hard about each preference. While we would never suggest that you compromise your beliefs or preferences, we encourage you to keep an open mind when choosing your Match Settings and be as flexible as possible. Sometimes even a small adjustment can have a dramatic impact on the number of matches you receive.
Choosing a narrow range of match settings can make matching difficult. For instance, you may receive a small number of matches if you choose:
- To be matched only within a narrow geographic range
- To receive matches only from an ethnicity that is rare in your area
- To receive matches only from a religion and/or denomination that is rare in your area
In areas such as smoking and drinking, there are details you should consider. It is difficult to match a smoker who will not accept a match that smokes.
Under the drinking section, if you select that you want matches who "never" drink, even a person who has a glass of champagne at a wedding or on New Year's Eve will not be available to you. This could effectively eliminate up to 85% of your potential matching pool.
Choosing whether or not to accept matches with children is a deeply personal choice. As you can imagine, once the age of your matches exceeds a certain point, the likelihood that they have children from a previous relationship increases greatly. If you are undecided on this preference, you may want to consider accepting matches with children as this will increase the number of matches we can provide.
