You will have to remove the transmission pan to remove the transmission filter. The pan is under the vehicle and next to the oil pan. The tranny pan will usually be ribbed or grooved, while the oil pan is always smooth.

The transmission filter is usually held in place with screws. Not hard to replace, but a very messy job. You will lose a few quarts or tranny fluid when you unbolt the pan. Be sure to have a large drain pan handy before removing the pan. And do NOT put the old fluid back in the vehicle. Replace any lost fluid with new fluid.
