Please Help, How And Where Do I Connect An External Mic To The Laptop?

Please help, how and where do I connect an external mic to the laptop? when I coonect it to the audio jack nothing happens and only the built in mic works. I also want to connect a Cassete player to convert old tapes to mp3, and i dont know what to do since there no mic jack... help me please, thanks

I think the headphone port is a combo headphone/ ext mic port
