Rebooting After Shutdown On Windows 7

Every time I try to shut down my computer using the start menu shut down button. It does whole shut down process fine.  but after a few seconds of my computer being shut down it turns back on.  If i hit the power button on my laptop right after it starts to turn back on it will shut down and stay off.  How do I get my computer to just shut down with out it turning back on a few seconds later?

Are you positive you aren't just restarting it?  There is a chance....that in the power schemes/settings for your computer, it may be weirdly set up.  For example you can change what happens when you go to Start --> Shutdown.  It may be set to restart instead of do a full shutdown. You or a program could have changed it.

When it restarts instead of full shutdown and then you press power button, that is normal and the above situation could still apply.

Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Power scheme and look very carefully through advanced options for what action will happen when you shut down via the actual Start --> Shutdown method.

Pressing your physical power button could also be assigned a different action.
