Computer Shuts Down For A Day Or Two Then Will Start

we run in on electrical power tho a pop up keeps telling us the battery is at the end of its life.  now it shuts down and won't start for a while.  I have checked all the plugs to make sure the are plugged in good.  does the battery still get used even tho we have it plugged into the wall?
