Under The Cutting Assembly - Black

If you hold the cutting assembly upside, it is black on the bottom. This black piece fits into another black piece when you sit the blender on the base. When I turn my blender on, it smells like something is burning and when I lift the glass jar up, there are little pieces of black where the two pieces are together. I have not idea what this is called. Has anyone else had this problem? I got ready to throw it away, put paid too much money to throw it away! HELP! Thank you.
