Will My Us Food Processor Work In The Uk?

I've been sent a DFP-3 Handy Prep food processor from the US. I live in London, UK. We have different voltage here, so I plugged my processor in with an adaptor. However, when I try to use it, it immediately overheats and emits smelly smoke - it is NOT happy. Is this because of the different voltage? If so, is there a way I can use it here? Many thanks for your help.
