Are you setting the timer correctly? Have you chosen high or low pressure before you begin? Here is a good instructional video for the Cuisinart pressure cooker: http://video.bedbathandbeyond.com/v/2811/cuisinart-6-quart-pressure-cooker/

I had the same problem while cooking a pot roast.  The unit shut down when it reached pressure.  The trouble shooting guide says it's too hot after browning.  I let it cool down twice and it still shut off.  I took everything out of the pot and found a layer of chopped onions and carrots stuck to the bottom.  I scraped this off and put in the rack as some one suggested and the unit started properly.  I think the veggies stuck because the pot was too hot when I put them in causing them to stick and this somehow caused the sensor to get too hot and shut the unit down.  Let it cool down a few minutes after browning and keep the bottom free may be the lesson learned.

I just had the same problem with my cuisinart 6 qt. electric pressure cooker.  I had it loaded just over half full with roast and veggies and was trying to set it to high pressure for 40 minutes.  It would run for about five minutes, never come to pressure, then beep a few times and switch to the KEEP WARM setting.  After troubleshooting everything that I could think of, I removed some of the vegetables and it worked fine.  I'm pretty sure that I had it over filled and that there wasn't enough space for it to build up enough pressure.  Anyway, I hope that helps someone else who might be scratching their head and wondering what to do---especially since the problem isn't in the troubleshooting guide!

Apparently the machine will also shut down if there's not enough liquid in it. Makes sense since it needs some steam to start building up pressure. If the sensors detect that the heat is reaching a certain point but the pressure is not rising then it will shut off. Discovered this when trying to cook a roast for the first time. The info wasn't easy to find. One reference to the need for liquid on the recipe side of the instruction booklet - Pg2.

Wow, I had the pressure cooker reaching the high PSI and it would switch to warm right away. I tried everything to figure why it was doing that (except asking my wife) but what happened was....when I was making beef stroganoff and browning the beef cubes coated in flour (3 batches), then when I added ingredients as instructed, the high heat from the browning created a semi hardened mush on the bottom of the pot which i couldn't really see...however what was happening was that the heat sensor was not allowing the pressure cooker to cook. Solution, empty pot contents into a large bowl and rinse the pressure cooker pot in cold water. Then add all of the stuff back in and it will work as planned :) happy happy happy

I really suggest that you always double check your recipe because that's what I had to do. I had put less water than what was recommended. It went right back to working as usual.
