Tensioner Spring Broken

Where do I hook up the 10" tensioner spring?

  1. Locate the idler arm and the idler pulley bracket on the mower deck. The idler arm is a metal arm that pivots on a bolt and is connected to the deck by a bracket. The idler pulley bracket is a metal bracket that holds the idler pulley.
  2. Position the tensioner spring between the idler arm and the idler pulley bracket. One end of the spring should be hooked onto the idler arm and the other end should be hooked onto the idler pulley bracket.
  3. Use pliers or a spring tool to stretch the tensioner spring and hook it onto the idler arm and the idler pulley bracket.
  4. Once the spring is hooked up, check that it is under tension and has some give when the belt is engaged. The tension should be enough to keep the belt tight but not so much that it puts undue stress on the belt or pulleys.
  5. Test the mower by engaging the blades and running them at various speeds to ensure that the belt stays tight and does not slip off the pulleys.
