Pto Engage Cable

I have followed the instructions to remove the deck on my LTX 1045 and come to the point where the manual ignores the PTO cable. It is attached to the deck. At what place do I detach the PTO cable: At the point where it goes through a plastic coupling and into a bracket on the deck (w/cotter pin), by removing the spring or by detaching it from the PTO handle under the fender on the right side. Help!  paul
