Engine Rpms

Hi;   During operations of my tractor, I made a breif stop to clear the shoot.  When I started the engine back up, the RPMs went sky high.  I pulled the throttle down, no good.  I shut it off, and pushed it back into the garage.   Any clue as to what happened, and how to fix this issue?   Thanks   Mike S.
