Electronic Travel Certificate Receipt

I have a travel certificate for $500 from being bumped off my flight last year. I must use it before Oct 12 2012...How do I find a flight and how do I book a flight? It seems that I can use this coupon for United Airlines and United Express as well as Continental. I'm uncertain where to look for a flight.
