Under the shifter console.  Remove shift lever knob, 1 screw at base of knob. screws in bottom of storage compartment, and maybe 1 or 2 at the rear.  The whole console comes off.  Kind of snaps on.  On the passenger side of the shifter base is a plug with 4 wires.  It rides back and forth with the shift lever and usually 1 or 2 wires brake, causing intermittent or total lock out of the shifter.  There is a small overide button next to this plug you can push in and get out of park.  You just have to leave the console off to access it until you get a new plug or fix the old one.  The wires on the OEM harness are a little tight thats why they break.  The button is on the front or top of the silver can-like part next to the plug.  Chevy part number for the plug with leads is 13583923.  Rock Auto sells the plug for $18.00.  It is listed as ACDELCO Pt# PT3923.  It is used for mutiple applications.  A generic 6 pin plug.  If you google the part # and look in images you will see it's the same plug.

To remove the console you pry up the woodlike trim around the shift lever.  The chrome comes up with it and the extension into the storage pocket in front of the shifter.  there are four screws in the bottom of the tall covered armrest compartment, and two under the wood trim around the shifter.  One screw to remove the shift knob, and one plug under console to power outlets in console.
