Charging System

I recently replaced the battery in my 2009  Chevy Silverado 2500HD gas. When I installed the new battery I noticed that the system was putting out 15 volts at idle and refuses to go down to 12 volt charging. By running the system on a poor battery did  the alternator work overtime and cause the BCM to malfunction? Also exactly where is the BCM located? I would appreciate an answer as soon as possible as I don't know if the electrical or electronic system will be damaged by this problem. Thanks , John
