Brake Cylinder Will Not Depress.

I'm changing the brake pads on a 2002 GMC Sonoma 2.2 4 cylinder. (Its exactly like the chevy s-10) so I've gotten everything off, and I've tried using c-clamps, but the brake piston won't depress so I can fit the new pads in. Everything I've read so far on the internet says you should be able to compress the piston with just c-clamps but mine won't budge. Any ideas?
