The 4T40 transmission in your Cavalier does not have a dipstick. Instead, the level has to be checked (and filled) from underneath the car while the car is level (while on jack stands) and the engine is running at operating temperature. There is a fill plug on the transmission. You need a fluid pump or a spray bottle with tubing to put more fluid in. You fill it until is starts leaking out of the fill hole. Your transmission should have a drain plug also, on the bottom.
