4wd Won't Engage When I Push The Button...

this problem occured once before and a mechenic told me a vaccumn hose had to be reconnected.. a quick fix, now its happened again and Id like to be able to take care of it myself...I cant seem to find a repair manual on-line anywhere..any help would be greatly appreciated...thanks
