what size is my paper the thermal paper companies all specify sizes not mm's.

The paper should be 57 or 58 mm (companies vary by a mil or two but it fits. The second number is the diameter of the roll, so how "fat" the roll is when it sits in the printer compartment. Normally use the same width and diameter for this model, so 57x57mm or 58x58mm will be fine. You might be able to use larger diameter e.g 57x80 or 58x80 but some models can't quite fit it, so best to use smaller diameter. Hope this helps. Feel free to ask if you need more paper info.
