I Can't Get My Powershot To Make A Connection With My Computer.

i can't get my powershot to make a connection with my computer. i plug in the usb and the to cable into my camera and then turn it on the play back mode. I have the Canon Utilities software loaded and it has worked in the past but now it is not recognizing my camera.
