How Do I Receive A Fax?

I can send a fax but cannot receive. The phone rings its specific "cadence" but the fax does not pick up. It would be really helpful to just look it up in the manual myself buy I am getting much grief trying to do this! I do not like having to download different software i.e. Wiseconvert in order to read a pdf. Getting frustrated.
