How Do I Know If I Have A Broken Shock Or Something Else?

I have had my Buick for 7 years and it has over 265k miles on it. After I was involved in an accident I noticed that the rear passenger side wheel well sat lower on the tire. It does not rub but it is definitely noticable that it is lower than the rest of the car. Is this a broken shock or something else?

It could be a blown out shock or maybe something worse. Sometimes the shock tower plates rust out and the shock and coil spring will either go into the trunk (upper plate) or fall down to the wheel opening (lower plate). Either way, the car will end up being lower on that side.

You will have to look under the car to see if it's just a bad shock or a rusted out shock tower plate.
