Sticky Synthetic Stock

I have a 243 wssm with a synthetic stock that has become very sticky to the touch. The gun is about 8 yrs old and from what I know this may have been caused by leaving it in a foam lined gun case for extended options of time. Is there any way to remedy this situation?
