I Messed Up My Phone By Entering The Wrong Password

my samsung galaxy prevail phone is no longer working properly because i accidentally entered the wrong password for my gmail account... if i delete that gmail account and make a new one the phone will return to factory settings... how badly will i mess up my phone if i do that
