What Is The Red Square In The Top Left Corner Of My Htc Only On Certain Calls

A red square appears in the top left corner of my HTC cell phone only on certain calls though. Why???

It is supposed to be a notification of something' to find out what it is, Place your finger on it (red square) and swipe down' it should appear on the notifications list, tap it for more details.
