How Do I Detach The Vacuum Hose So I Can Use Attachments?

the instructions tell you to grasp the hose handle and lift but when I do the hose merely comes away from the body of the vacuum but does not detach to allow me to put attachments on the hose - I can't figure out how to remove the hose from the base where it connects to the beater bar/sweeper.

If the upholstery hose is difficult to get out of the base of the machine, or it is stuck,

gently place foot on the base of the machine and pull up and out. **NOTE: There is a latch on the hose a foot above the base that it pulls out of as the hose is removed up and out.
