1300mdc Coverstitch Skipping Stitches

When I stitch on Knits. I am getting skipped stitches. On Wovens, not so much, Also, the wide cover stitch never picks up the wide thread, ( thread in the yellow thread guide) cannot get it to work on either the narrow or wide or three thread coverstitch. I have tried everything I know to do. Help me please. I live about 4-5 hours from a dealer and my hushband is a mechanical engineer so with some insight he would be able to fix it. My machine is obviously not under any warrenty.
