6 Char Key

The pre-set key is 6 char but now the connection asks for 8 char.  What should I do?  I am reinstalling the computer after a crash. Thx.

The minimum it can be is 8 chracters. You will need to reset your password.

First grab a pen and hold it down in the rest button for 15 seconds to wipe out the current security settings.

Instructions
    • 1

      Turn on a computer that is connected to the wireless router. Open the Internet browser and type in the IP address of the router, which would be in the user manual. The default IP address is "http://192.168.2.1." Press "Enter."

      Click the "Login" link at the top left of the page. The "Login" screen will open. Leave this password field blank and click "Submit."

      Click "Security" in the "Wireless" section of the task pane on the left of the screen. In the "Security Mode" drop-down menu, select "64 Bit WEP."

    • 4

      Type a password or phrase into the "Passphrase" box and click "Generate." A numeric key will be generated.

    • 5

      Write down the numbers listed after "Key 1," as users will be required to enter them to access the wireless network. Click the "Apply Changes" button to save the new security settings.
