Trash Bin
can't move items into trash in mail although the trash bin is empty

It's working for me, although I didn't move over from MobileMe. In addition to "Move deleted messages to Trash" make sure that "Store deleted messages on server" is checked. If it isn't, your deleted messages should be in a Deleted Messages folder under "On My Mac" or in iCloud. Finally, make sure the setting of "Permanently erase deleted messages when:" is set the way you want it.
