Underwater Metal Detector

Going down to the bahama's 11/10/11 & am taking a Whites underwater metal detector w/o batteries. What should I do to make sure its alright to take it in either carry-on or checked baggage. It cost me $1000 & I don't want it taken away from me at the airport & want to make sure I have it when I reach my destination (Grand Bahama's). Thanking you in advance! Peter Schmid

You will need to put in in your checked in baggage and I would suggest wrapping it with things like bubble wrap you can also put it in a box or another cantainer with plenty of protection around it and mark it fragile.
