How Much Free Luggage Can A Passenger With Military I.d. Check In?

My son-in-law has military i.d. He and his family are stationed in Tampa and are going home to Texas for Xmas. Because of the baby, they wish to check in a crib and a car seat. Will they have to pay for this checked in luggage on their American Airline flight?
