I Would Like Take The 46inch Tv From Us To India

Before you try to take a 46" TV to India via a passenger flight, make sure the TV will work in India.  Also determine what cables, converters and plug adapters will be necessary. (India is 240V while the US is essentially 115 V (between 110 and 120V)

Also remember that TV formats vary throughout the world.  The Digital broadcast standard selected by India is DVB-T while that in the U.S., it's ATSC. Analogue standards (PAl and NTSC) are incompatible too. Make sure the USA bought TV will work in India.

Some airlines will accept up to a 46" LED TV. But the size and weight of the final package might suggest that you will be told ship it as cargo since it is not film equipment or musical equipment.   

Equally as important as the dimensions of your set is the weight and the storing info.  If this is a plasma set, it must be specially loaded and stored in a vertical position. (pretty much the same way it would be mounted for viewing)  And this may be true for an LED set as well although I think you're safe with an LCD set.

If your luggage is between 50lbs/23 kgs and less than 70lbs/32 kgs you may take it but there will be an additional $60.00 charge. If the weight is 70 lbs or higher, it will not be accepted.

The size limitation is 62"/158cm and will be charged at $150 per piece. Baggage measuring more than 126"/320cm will not be accepted. The size is determined by adding the total outside dimensions of each bag: length + width + height. The dimensions you have provided indicate that you could be changed an additional $150.00 at least.

I strongly suggest that you contact American Airlines directly with your height and dimension information to determine if this TV can be taken on your particular flight. 1-800-433-7300 is a phone to determine if there is a baggage embargo on your flight and whether this particular TV will be accepted.

The next thing you need to know is whether the TV will be delayed in Customs once it arrives in India and how much it will cost there to redeem it.  You can ask the airline that question but they might not have that information. From what I have read, the answer might be different once the set is on Indian soil.

According to one source if the value of this set is above the free allowance of 25K (25,000 rupees or 501.51 USD) you will be charged 35% or more custom duty over and above the $501.51 value. If you are moving to India (Returning to India for Good) you will only be charged 15% over and above the maximum value.  The 25K limit includes goods such as electronics and jewelry but does exclude your laptop. Note that allowances cannot be pooled between family members. 

Be sure to have receipts handy or you can end up paying on an arbitrary value. Don't try to undervalue the item because Customs has its own database of values.
