If you cancelled a reservation and wish to exchange your ticket for a new flight reservation, you can contact American Airlines 800-433-7300 for help with rebooking. It's possible you may be able to do this on American's website, but if you have difficulty, contact a live agent via the number above. Do this when you're ready to book the new reservation. Have your original ticket number handy. The airline agent will calculate the remaining value on your existing ticket plus any possible change fees/penalties and will advise the total cost of your new reservation.

If you did not voluntarily cancel the original reservation and it was airline initiated, there are different guidelines, such as you should not have to pay any penalties or fees for changing your original ticket.

The most important thing to remember is usually tickets & their value are good for 1 year from date of issue. Don't let time lapse too long in exchanging the ticket for new travel plans.
