Call American Airlines at 1-800-433-7300 if you are currently in the USA or Canada. If you are calling from another country, there would be a different number to call American.

You need to call the airline BEFORE your flight is scheduled to depart, otherwise you'll probably forfeit your return ticket and have to purchase a brand new ticket. There will probably be fees involved to change your return flight & date, but you should be allowed to make the change you're requesting unless your ticket has restrictions that won't allow it. Best thing to do is call American Airlines right away.
