Is There A Way To Adjust Burner Knobs?

My microwave is above my Amana range, and sometimes when using the microwave I will accidentally lean on the knobs. The knobs turn past the clicking without any sound occuring and at some point I smell gas. The other day before I noticed there was a woosh and the burner lit with a larger than normal flame -- to the point where a meat wrapper I had on the counter was almost too close for comfort. Is there a way to adjust the resistance on the knobs?
