Unable To Install Adobe Reader On My New Laptop

I uninstalled Adobe Reader 7 and tried repeatedly to install the latest version, but it will not install. I get a message that says "Setup has detected that you have a more functional product installed." But I do not. I cannot open PDF files.

This is a nice little FREE utility you can try. Install Microsoft "Windows Installer CleanUp Utility" http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/en-us
If you find (PROGRAM NAME) listed just hit the delete button.
This will take care of the MSI problem.
Then do the normal Uninstall.
Uninstall Adobe Reader, do a search for all "Adobe" files and delete them. Go to the Adobe website and install the newest Adobe Reader 8.1 program.
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
CLEAN INSTALL needed here.
This time after the Uninstall, shut down completely for at least 30 seconds, and then restart.
Then do a search for 'all files and folders' - search for both 'Adobe' and then '7.0', with the options "Search system folders", "Search hidden files and folders" and "Search subfolders" checked. Delete all of those related files found.
You should do this search and delete whenever you Uninstall any programs. It will remove lots and lots of leftover junk files and corrupted files taking up room on your hard drive. It will also give you a "clean install" when you reinstall or install an updated program. (Do this ESPECIALLY when re-installing or updating to a NEW anti-virus programs and programs such as McAfee or Norton etc.)
