How Do I Use The 3g Feature?

i want to use the 3g feature available on my netbook but i cant figure out a way to get it,where do i get to insert the sim card?

The slot is behind the long battery. After I put my SIM card in I still did not knw how to use it. Any help would be appreciated. Alos do i need a special Sim card or can my mobile phone do?

Also any help with backing up my mobile SIM card to save messages and contacts to PC
