How Do I Hook Up External Speakers So They Work?

acer aspire 5733 laptop. I hooked up external speakers to headphone jack and speakers won't work. How do I get them to work? Am I hooking them up correctly

If the internal speakers works well and mere headphone works well when connected to the same jack, then your speakers are either defect of you are not connecting them well. If neither internal speakers nor headphone will work, then you probably do not have audio drivers installed.
