How Do I Activate My Aarp Card Easily?

Before you can start using your AARP card, you must activate it and select a personal identification number. An AARP card may be purchased at a retailer or online. In both cases, you need to provide personal information for identification. You are required to provide your name, date of birth, address, telephone number and Social Security number. You must also provide the information, such as name and date of birth, for a second cardholder, such as a spouse.
If you bought your card at a retailer, follow the instructions on the card to register it. If you signed up your card online, your Social Security number is used to validate your card. After successfully registering your card, you receive a personalized card with instructions for activation. Follow the instructions that come with the card, and choose a PIN. Once you have successfully activated your card, funds on the temporary card are transferred automatically to your personalized card. The temporary card then becomes invalid, and you may throw it away.

Despite AARP's misleading verbiage, no registration or activation is required for its member card, as long as you've paid the membership fee. You can verify this by phoning AARP at the number on the back of the card. Filling out the "activation" form is helpful to AARP but not to you; it's essentially a way for AARP to profit from its partner companies that want to know your susceptibility to its solicitations.
