Zynga Poker Buddies

Me and myboyfriend bOth have iPhone apps for zynga poker and when we try to play together it will rarely show each other as online but it shows my other poker buddies as online. I'm always trying to join his table when there are plenty of seats available but it doesn't show him online. And he will send me a request to join but I never receive it. Please help with fixing this solution.
