Why Are They Trying To Get Our Cell Numbers Before We Can See Our Email?

I can't sign into my Yahoo mail account until I give them my cell number. I will not give them my cell number as I do not want to be bothered by telemarketers. What are my legal options here?

Yahoo, Google and other major service providers have started to use cellphone authentication as a backup mechanism for password resets. When you request to change your password, or lost access to your account by someone else taking control of it, Yahoo will send a message to your phone and ask you to re-enter it in their website to confirm you are the rightful owner of the account.

These prompts used to have a skip button, but if it doesn't have one now, you can try typing mail.yahoo.com in the browser, from the page for adding phone numbers, this should skip and take you to your inbox for now.

About telemarketing, it's highly unlikely and possibly illegal for them to use it without your consent, but you can always check your privacy options in account settings to disable anything you don't want.
