  1. Change Your Password: As soon as you suspect unauthorized access, change your email account password immediately. Choose a strong and unique password that includes a combination of letters (both uppercase and lowercase), numbers, and special characters. Avoid using easily guessable information like birthdates or common words.
  2. Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA): Many email providers offer two-factor authentication as an extra layer of security. When enabled, you'll need to enter a verification code sent to your phone or another trusted device in addition to your password. This significantly enhances the security of your account.
  3. Check for Suspicious Activity: Once you have changed your password and enabled 2FA, review your email account for any suspicious activity. Look for emails you didn't send, changes in account settings, or unfamiliar login locations.
  4. Scan for Malware and Viruses: Run a thorough scan of your computer and any other devices you use to access your email. Malicious software could be capturing your login credentials and compromising your account.
  5. Review Account Recovery Settings: Check if any account recovery settings, such as alternative email addresses or phone numbers, have been added or modified without your knowledge. Make sure they are accurate and belong to you.
  6. Log Out from All Devices: Some email providers allow you to log out of all active sessions from a central location. This will help you terminate any unauthorized access to your account.
  7. Contact Your Email Provider: If you believe your account has been compromised, it's a good idea to contact your email provider's support team. They can assist you in securing your account and provide guidance on additional steps you should take.
  8. Be Cautious with Personal Information: Be careful about sharing personal information or login details with anyone, especially through suspicious emails or websites.
  9. Monitor Your Account Regularly: Keep an eye on your email account regularly to ensure there is no unusual activity.
