What Does The 26vato Mean At The End Of The Hard Drive Model Number

Every single hard drive has errors at manufacture. These are stored in an Eprom on the hard drive controller card. A character code is put on the end of model code to give this drive a unique identity. It also can be used to identify when it was made. Only the model code is relevant to you for identifying what you have. If your controller card fails then this number becomes important as it is unique. One needs to have the information stored on this Eprom transferred to the new controller card or the drive will be unusable. You cannot swap controllers between drives without problems. It may work but.....
