Cancel A Debt

In my credit report I have a debt with Verizon. At the moment the bill was sent I was deployed in Iraq. On November 2008 the bill was paid. Apparently verizon forgot to notify the credit agency that the payment was made. The problem is that my location is in Puerto Rico and the company that took over is Claro. I need to know where can I can find some imformation reguarding to this issue. Thank You
