False Credit Reporting

I am wondering how US BANK can report on someone's credit report deed in lieu of forclosure.I was hurt on thr job in 2008 and got behind on my mortgage the house never went into forclosure the bank had agreed to a short sale which was completed in 2009 and now I am in a position to buy a home and put 100k down on a 285k property but because US BANK had reported false information due to the short sale I cannot get the house bought so how do I get them to change this I have faxed a letter over to them asking for that false statement to be removed so how do I find out if they did so thanks.Thanks Jerry Cox
