What Causes The Power Light On 2011 Grand Vitara Dash Board To Burn

Well I have narrowed mine to it being drivers side, front brake hose, or stubborn caliper piston (s) (there are 2 pistons per caliper). I suspected an interior collapsing/deteriorating brake hose after doing a fluid flow check.

When you step on the brake, you pump or force the fluid into the caliper, but when you release the brake there is no powered sys to withdraw the fluid back up the hose, so it relys on backflow at that point, and if the interior of the hose is restricted in anyway, the fluid will stay in the caliper instead of backing away into the hose line, whick keeps pressure on the disk, keeping the brake on. So I went ahead and ordered a new brake hose, waiting for it to arrive now.

In the meantime, I took the caliper out and cleaned it, exercised it (in/out in/out), and lubed the 2 pistons (without taking the pistons out, yet), cleaned, lubed the caliper slide bolts, & put it back together to run/test car. So far it works ok, a lot better than before, but there still seems to be just a little caliper drag, and that side still gets a little bit warmer than the opposite wheel. This also helps me confirm that it is probably the hose that is substantially collapsing more than not. Once the new hose is in, I should be able to confirm my suspicions.

It seems to have been the extreme heat from the binding caliper that was setting off the wheel spin sensor (traction control sys, stability control sys) to limit wheel spin and reduce engine power.

I also read in the manual that extended heavy braking (hot brakes) can set off the traction control & stability control sys's because the ABS, traction and stability all share the data from the wheel spin sensor. So I pulled the fuse for the ABS sys which disabled it from interfering with the braking in anyway, ya know, so the computer could not use the brakes in any way.

This allowed me to drive the car long enough (without having the computer interfere) to identify the left front caliper binding and the heat it would cause.

Anyhoo, the car drives good for now (I am still in repair mode tho). Waiting on the brake hose. What seems odd tho, is that through all of this, the ABS light has never come on, just the traction & stability control lights and limiting engine power light - hmmm. I would have thought that the ABS light would have come on with all of the heat and binding issues in the caliper that I've been having.

It helped that most of the mechanicals of the XL7 are GM. So I found a lot of help from the Chev forums (much more helpful than the Suzuki forums). Also, I used youtube.

Now, what has been your story so far? Would love to hear it. Everything helps when trying to diagnose.
