Why Does My Sony Mhc-ec909ip Click And Go Into Protect Mode?
I bought a Sony stereo from Wal Mart. 2 months later, It constantly said protect, so I went back to Wal Mart and swapped it for a new one. 6 months later, it's doing the same thing, only I lost my receipt with the 2 year service plan so I can't take it back. It will click 3 times (or 2 times if I disconnect the fan) and will go into protect mode. I don't have $200 to spend for a new one. I didn't know Sony's quality was so sucky. Can anyone help resolve this issue?

My home power flicked off then back on and the flashing "PROCTECT" showed up on my radio.
I took it apart looking for a fuse, a lot of screws. Even unplugged 2 ribbon cables and tried seperating the circuit board(s) from other components. I broke 2 solder joints in the process but resoldered them.
I believe what cured my problem was handling the circuit boards (which can damage them). My guess is that there was something that detected a power problem and handling the components depleted the power stored in the capacitors. Make sure your power is off while touching the internals.
I then plugged it back in while dis-assembled and the problem was gone. Proceded to plug in speakers and try a CD and it works. It took me about 90 minutes.
