Can You Change The Head On The Ryobi 4-cycle Wheeled Field Trimmer?
I have the Ryobi 4 Cycle Wheeled Trimmer or walk behind "field" trimmer. My only problem is that the line breaks before I move 5 feet. I am not cutting anything difficult, basic heavy yard grass breaks the line in no time. Can the trimmer head be exchanged like on other trimmers? If so which bolt do I need to loosen to remove the head? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I think the timmer will be wonderful if I can get some basic trimming done, before having to replace the lines.

The knob on the bottom of the trimming head unscrews from the head and allows you to remove the trimmer head. This knob on traditional trimmers is referred to as the "bump knob". However, the manual does not tell you this, but this knob is REVERSE thread. You will have to turn the knob CLOCKWISE(righty-tighty) to remove, NOT counter-clockwise ( NOT lefty loosey)

I too have the same problem, excess string consumption. I hope I have solved or at least slowed it down. I bought a roll of the .105 string with 3 sides, cut 2 to required length, trimmed about 1/4 inch of the 3 sides off so they will go all the way through with 1" out of top. I did about as much cutting as usual and had lots of string left. I hope this will help. BUDD.
