Popular Mower Will Not Move Forward Or Backward, Have Check All Belts, Etc.

Moved mower to front yard from the backyard, came back to it and mower would not move forward or backward. You did have to hold in gear till take off and things was fine, it would stay in gear, is my trans gone bad
