If your regular key had a chip, the plastic key is designed not to start your car but only to permit entry. Many locksmiths will decline to create a key without the original; in that case you may need to purchase a new key from the dealership. If you got the plastic key through your AAA membership, AAA will cover a small part of the locksmith cost,
