Chugg Chugg

Why would my 1995 Grand Prix suddenly start making a chugging sound? It seems to be idiling low has died once but started right back up. I use Lucas fuel injector cleaner/lubricant about once a month. I'm thinking maybe spark plugs. Also, could a dirty air filter cause this? Suggestions would be helpful. Don't want the expense of a mechanic until I can try some things myself.
